Pete has lived on Portland since 1976, having been stationed there with the Royal Navy, in which he served for 22 years. Married with two grown-up children, he now works in the civilian aircraft-building inductry and runs Chesil Beach Angling Tours in his spare time.
"Heggy" (or Pete to his friends) has fished all over the world from British Columbia in Canada to the coast of the Namibian Desert in West Africa, hunting the huge Bronze Whaler Sharks that inhabit that part of the African shoreline.
If asked what are the highlights of his angling career, he will tell you that there are two, firstly his selection as part of the England Shore Team back in the late '80s and then the capture of the British-Record Ballan Wrasse in 1998.
Pete is still involved in the local match circuit, although his preference is for specimen/species hunting. If you get the chance try and get him to tell you some some of his personal best fish. Its quite an impressive list.
Equally at home beachcasting along Chesil Beach for the huge array of species that turn up throughout the year, hunting Wrasse and Conger around Portland, or when the chance arises light- line fishing in either of the two local harbours. His knowledge of the area has been built up from the thousands of hours he has spent fishing around Dorset's Jurassic Coast.
Fishing has always more than just a hobby for Pete and now with Chesil Beach Angling Tours he has found away to combine business with pleasure, his greatest pleasure now is seeing a satisfied smile on the face of his clients, so join him and make the most of your trip to Weymouth and Portland!
